MICHIGAN ENDANGERED SPECIES PROTECTION
SUMMARY
Part 365 of the NREPA (MCL 324.36501-36507) outlines Michigan's provisions for the protection of endangered species. It incorporates by reference the federal threatened and endangered species lists and authorizes the DNR to establish a list of species that are threatened or endangered in the state. The statute authorizes the DNR to acquire land and to enter into cooperative agreements with other agencies or private persons to help protect listed species. The statute makes it illegal to take species on either the federal or state lists.
