Kristen Jurs graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Since graduating she has held a variety of jobs with tasks such as providing biological services for the National Marine Fisheries Service in Alaska, leading skiing and hiking nature tours in Colorado, coordinating adult naturalist programs at Redwood National Park in California, and developing environmental education programs for the Macomb County Public Works Office in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. She has received several awards for stewardship, public service partnerships, and innovative education programs.
Currently she has been working at the St. Clair County Health Department for five years where she developed St. Clair County’s Storm Water Program. She coordinates efforts of this program to educate the public about water resources, correct illicit discharges, such as failing septic systems, to local waterways, and develop and implement Watershed Management Plans. She spends most of her time working with local communities and a variety of county agencies in St. Clair County to implement best management practices that will protect and improve local water resource quality. She is on the board of the St. Clair River Binational Public Advisory Council and is currently working to reestablish the Friends of the St. Clair River Watersheds, the U.S. nonprofit arm of this council.
Kristen has supplemented her former education with graduate level environmental engineering and management classes. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Public Policy and Administration.
