Kristen Jurs graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Since graduating she has held a variety of jobs with tasks such as providing biological services for the National Marine Fisheries Service in Alaska, leading skiing and hiking nature tours in Colorado, coordinating adult naturalist programs at Redwood National Park in California, and developing environmental education programs for the Macomb County Public Works Office in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. She has received several awards for stewardship, public service partnerships, and innovative education programs.

Currently she has been working at the St. Clair County Health Department for five years where she developed St. Clair County’s Storm Water Program. She coordinates efforts of this program to educate the public about water resources, correct illicit discharges, such as failing septic systems, to local waterways, and develop and implement Watershed Management Plans. She spends most of her time working with local communities and a variety of county agencies in St. Clair County to implement best management practices that will protect and improve local water resource quality. She is on the board of the St. Clair River Binational Public Advisory Council and is currently working to reestablish the Friends of the St. Clair River Watersheds, the U.S. nonprofit arm of this council.

Kristen has supplemented her former education with graduate level environmental engineering and management classes. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Public Policy and Administration.

Sheri Faust has held the Environmental Educator position for St. Clair County’s Storm Water Program since 2004. She is responsible for developing and presenting education and outreach programs to public agencies and schools that support the storm water program and watershed planning efforts. She coordinates county-wide events including Earth Fair and founded the county’s first River Day event in 2005.

Prior to working for St. Clair County, she worked for The New Detroit Science Center as Director of Education. There she created an interactive CD-ROM and educational video, now elected for a national award. Her work experience also includes interpreting Michigan’s major ecosystems as a Naturalist at Lakeport State Park; grant-writing and fundraising as Fund Development Director for Girl Scouts; and conducting several wildlife research projects in Kenya, Africa. Sheri received her B.S. from Michigan State University in Natural Resources Management. She is certified to teach Project WET and Project WILD classroom curriculums, volunteers as a judge for the county Math and Science Fair, volunteers at the Pine River Nature Center, is an active Master Gardener and serves as the Publicity Chair for the St. Clair County Master Gardener Association.

Mike Malcolm is the newest member of the Storm Water Program. He joined the IDEP Team as a Sanitarian in June 2006. As an IDEP Sanitarian Mike drives, walks and boats St. Clair County’s streams, roadside ditches and rivers looking for illicit discharges. Prior to working for the Health Department’s Storm Water Program, Mike worked on the IDEP Team at the St. Clair County Drain Office. He holds a B.S. in Ecology from Northern Michigan University and currently resides in China Township.
